ThinCats team take on marathon trek for Cancer Research UK

A team of ThinCats staff set off for a 26-mile hike to raise funds for our corporate charity Cancer Research UK, from ThinCats’ head office in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire at 8.30am on Friday, 17 July in glorious sunshine.

The initial route took the walkers out through local country estate, Staunton Harold, with good views of the striking church at Breedon on the Hill for much of the way. The overgrown courtyards at Calke Abbey provided a welcome pit stop, the first of many needed on the hottest day of the year.

Water refilled (over 50 litres were consumed throughout the day) and protein bars scoffed, the team continued through the idyllic villages of Ticknall, Smisby and Packington. In 32 degree heat, the trail looped back through the heart of the National Forest, Oakthorpe park and the former coal mining site of Hick’s lodge.

After 9h33m, a triumphant band of exhausted hikers returned to the office having conquered the goal set at the start of the day! The marathon was complete, 33 staff participated, walking an impressive 568 miles in total!

The sponsorship raised for the team currently stands at £7333 – you can still support their efforts via this link.
