John Mould – Chief Executive Officer
John is Chief Executive for ThinCats, and brings nearly 30 years of financial services and risk management experience to the role. His main focus is on safeguarding money and minimising risk for all those involved with the platform, whilst ensuring the smooth running of the company. He has introduced well tested financial controls and procedures, and has major plans to develop and grow the business, and bring in new products.
Prior to joining ThinCats, he was Chief Operating and Financial Officer at Hermes Fund Managers, and Chief Operating Officer at New Star Asset Management. John held a series of senior European financial and risk management roles at Morgan Stanley, and board positions both in fund companies and main operating companies. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Kevin Caley – Founder and Chairman
As Co-founder and Chairman, Kevin has particular responsibility for product innovation and looking after lenders. He has a Cranfield MBA, and over 30 years’ experience of early stage venture capital and small business finance; Kevin is the author of a number of industry respected books and publications on the subject.
Peter Brown – Founder and Finance Director
Co-founder and Finance Director, Peter is responsible for overseeing the financial development and loan administration of ThinCats. Peter has held senior positions in a wide range of businesses both in the UK and internationally over the last 25 years, including 12 years as Operations Director at Advantage Early Growth Fund Ltd, setting up the West Midlands Early Growth Fund.
Jill Sandford – Chief Operating Officer
Jill is responsible for the development and implementation of operational controls and procedures within the Company, as well as working on strategic initiatives. Prior to joining ThinCats, Jill was a Director of Restructuring and Recovery with a top 10 national chartered accountancy firm. Having worked in restructuring for some 28 years, she has extensive experience of providing strategic restructuring and turnaround solutions for stakeholders of businesses in financial difficulties. Jill is a licensed Insolvency Practitioner, being authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Nick Buller – Chief Technology Officer
Nick is responsible for overseeing the technology and development of the ThinCats platform, continuously aiming to improve the customer experience, provide exciting new features, and maximise security. He has vast experience in finance and technology; having spent over 10 years at Barclays at Director level, he has held CTO positions at a number of other London-based technology firms, as well as Technology Director at ESF Capital.
Damon Walford – Chief Development Officer
Damon’s main role at ThinCats is to help grow the existing business and capitalise on new opportunities, with a particular focus on originating loans, widening the platform’s network of Sponsors, and improving the customer journey. He has over 20 years’ experience in the financial sector, most recently as MD of Aldermore Invoice Finance.
Samantha Gray – General Counsel
Samantha provides commercial and legal advice across the Group and is involved in the development of the operational and transactional processes. She also oversees the securities, monitoring and recoveries teams.
Samantha comes with a strong legal background. She has over 16 years’ experience in the profession, having previously been a Partner at Langleys Solicitors LLP and headed up their Finance Law unit which covered financial services, banking, insolvency and restructuring matters.
Toni Shukla – Recoveries Manager
Toni is our Recoveries Manager, responsible for managing problematic loans, loans in default, and those in a formal insolvency process. She deals with all matters from enforcing security to pursuing a personal guarantee, and is a licensed Insolvency Practitioner and member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association. She joined ThinCats from a global accountancy network where she was part of the Restructuring Advisory team, and has substantial experience in both personal insolvency and corporate restructuring.
Melanie Lee – Monitoring Manager
Responsible for overseeing the loan book and developing close working relationships with borrowers, Melanie undertakes quarterly reviews of Management Information and ensures that borrowers are complying with financial covenants. She also manages the activity of external Sponsors and works closely with Recoveries to minimise the impact of any defaults.
Most recently Melanie was an Auditor with HSBC Invoice Finance, and has 10 years’ experience as a corporate finance broker.
Vik Lad – Customer Service Manager
Vik’s main role is to improve the customer service experience; revising procedures, implementing better processes and organising pertinent training. He is also responsible for monitoring and moderating the client forums. He has 6 years’ experience in retail banking, having managed a number of different branches of Santander.
Mike Millington – Partnership Manager
Primarily responsible for smoothing the interface between the Sponsors and the ThinCats platform, for both operations and transactions, Mike provides the link between credit and listings on the platform. He also manages the onboarding of new Sponsors. Mike has nearly 30 years’ experience in finance, having spent 15 years as a Relationship Manager at RBS before joining the ThinCats team.
Nigel Bongard – Compliance Officer
Nigel’s primary focus has been gaining full FCA authorisation for the business; ensuring effective system procedures and controls for compliance, including requirements and standards under the regulatory system. He is also responsible for risk management, anti-money laundering and maintaining an effective relationship with the Financial Conduct Authority. Nigel has nearly 40 years’ experience in the City, working as a Regulator, Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer with a major asset management firm. He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and an Alumni of the London Business School, Investment Management Programme.
Simon Brook – Head of Credit and Risk
Simon has 35 years’ experience in corporate banking and asset finance, particularly in SME funding. He specialises in advising companies on funding strategies and putting in place suitable financing structures. He has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University.
Stuart Caley – Finance Administration Manager
Stuart is responsible for the ThinCats’ accounting system, and its interface with Street UK, the system which administers direct debits, deposits and income allocation. He is also involved in arranging the draw-down of new loans. Stuart has significant experience in capital finance management and administration, most recently at Jaguar Cars.
Guy Whitaker – CASS and Operations Manager
Guy’s main role is to develop and maintain procedures to ensure that ThinCats adheres to the Client money (CASS) rules set out by the FCA; dealing with client money with a high level of customer service, whilst reducing the risk of errors. CASS compliance ensures that client money is protected and gives peace of mind. Guy came from 15 years of working in the City, most recently at Transact (Integrated financial arrangements Ltd), an online platform for IFAs. He holds the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments IOC qualification.
Rosie Gill – Securities Manager
Rosie’s role is to produce and oversee the detailed range of legal documents used by the Sponsors, working alongside the Sponsors and relevant solicitors to ensure that all documents are appropriate.
Rosie has over eight years’ experience in personal and commercial banking, most recently working within the HSBC East Midlands Business Banking Team. She has completed her IFS Certification in Business Banking and Conduct.
Julie Hefter – Loan Administration Supervisor
Julie’s main responsibilities are to review loan and security documents, provide support to the Securities team, oversee loans being listed onto the platform, work with the Recoveries Manager in providing strategic advice when a borrower is in default and managing the process if a company enters a formal insolvency process. She also provides regular updates to the lenders. Julie has over 16 years’ experience in Recoveries, having previously worked at RSM and PKF Cooper Parry LLP.
Iuliana Balanescu – Client On-Boarding Manager
Iuliana focuses on Anti Money Laundering, KYC and Due Diligence regulations; she is responsible for opening, verifying and reviewing client accounts, processing orders for deposits/withdrawals and transaction monitoring. Iuliana has a degree in Business and Finance from Coventry University.
